POSITION: Mechanical Estimation Engineer (Firefighting and Life Safety System)
REPORTS TO: Tender Estimation
Manager
Job Purpose:
The Estimator Engineer will be
responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates and quantity take-offs for
mechanical systems, with a focus on firefighting and life safety systems,
during the tendering phase of construction projects. This role ensures
competitive, compliant, and comprehensive bids by analyzing project
documentation, assessing risks, and collaborating with internal and external
stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
1- Review and analyze project
plans, specifications, and tender documents to determine the scope of
mechanical works, particularly firefighting and life safety systems.
2- Perform detailed quantity
take-offs for mechanical and fire protection systems, ensuring accuracy in
material, labor, and equipment estimates.
3- Prepare cost estimates for all
mechanical works, including firefighting and life safety systems, based on
drawings, bills of quantities, and supplier/subcontractor quotations.
4- Solicit and evaluate bids from
suppliers and subcontractors, ensuring the best value and compliance with
project requirements.
5- Advise on tendering procedures
and participate in bid preparation, including technical and commercial
submissions.
6- Assess project risks related
to costs, timelines, and technical challenges; propose risk mitigation
strategies.
7- Coordinate with project
management, engineering, and procurement teams to align estimates with project
objectives and schedules.
8- Maintain and update cost
databases and estimation software with current rates and historical data.
9- Stay informed on industry
trends, standards, and regulatory requirements for mechanical and fire safety
systems.
10- Prepare and present detailed
reports and cost breakdowns to management and stakeholders.
11- Participate in site visits as
needed to gather project-specific information.
Key Skills & Qualifications:
1- Bachelor’s degree in
Mechanical Engineering or a related field
Proven experience in mechanical
estimation, quantity surveying, and firefighting/life safety systems within the
construction industry.
2- Strong analytical and
numerical skills; attention to detail.
Proficiency in cost estimation
and project management software.
3- Excellent communication,
negotiation, and teamwork abilities.
4- Knowledge of relevant codes,
standards, and best practices for fire protection and life safety systems.
5- Ability to work under tight
deadlines and manage multiple tenders simultaneously.
6- Verify quantities against
project drawings and BOQ, and prepare additional or omission BOQs as needed.
